The Elder Project

The Elder Project presents and shares the stories of elders in their 70’s and 80’s from the Indigenous communities of New York City. The project honors the knowledge that the keepers of our stories hold and creates a model for how elder artists can be supported in continuing to pursue their creative dreams. On March 5 & 6, Spiderwoman Theater and La MaMa E.T.C. presented an evening of performances by two of Spiderwoman Theaters’ founders Lisa Mayo and Gloria Miguel both of whom are in their 80’s. Each presented a new one woman show: Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue written by Gloria Miguel with Steve Elm and performed by Gloria Miguel and Among the Living, written by Lisa Mayo and performed by Lisa Mayo and Danielle Soames. Each piece mirrors the emotional, mental and physical realities faced by these elders.
